Pair in pharma industry raise money in memory of friend who died from cancer

Two friends who work in the pharmaceutical industry will walk 125 miles along the South-West coast between Falmouth and Salcombe in five days to raise money for Cancer Research in memory of a colleague who died from the disease last year.

Jamie Durbidge, who is the managing director at Perennial Pharma, and Jamie Sparrow, who heads up Europe, Middle East and Africa at Accord Healthcare, are raising money in memory of Luke Hart, who passed away at the age of 50 in January last year after a five-year battle with cancer.

Durbidge and Sparrow, who will start the walk on June 24 and aim to finish it on the 28th and have so far raised over £4,000, are also raising awareness of the Luke Hart Foundation which was set up by his family and provides fundraising and support for a number of charities.

“Jamie Sparrow has known Luke for longer than I have. Jamie’s father Mike gave Luke his first job in the pharmaceutical industry and their families have been friends for many years and lived in neighbouring villages for a period of time,” Durbidge told Independent Community Pharmacist.

“In my case, it was a similar situation to how I met Jamie. Luke and I didn’t work together but we spent a lot of funny times together over the years and became friends through the industry.”

Durbidge and Sparrow said they will publish more information about the walk and details of the route they will take over the coming weeks.
